003.024 - World War II Victory Medal-WWII medal suspended from ribbon in shades of purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, going from red to purple on other side. Bronze- colored medal approx. 1.5 inches diameter has winged victory on front. On back has words "The Great War For Civilization" with the names of 14 countries involved. Ribbon has brass bar with word TRANSPORT on it. Metal and ribbon measures 2.5" overall. In good condition.

040.2077 - Black wool naval uniform top belonged to Mr. Whalen. Navy uniform; Dress blue jumper, no pants. Size 36R. Label on back neck under collar. 31 written in ink on label. Three white stripes around cuffs and around collar. Left sleeve has three green stripes with white insignia above them. Right sleeve has USS coral Sea with white emblem below. White braid in three stripes on cuff and jumper collar indicate regulation Navy issue. Green braid stripes indicate times enlisted, 3 years. USS Coral Sea was a WWII aircraft carrier. White insignia with wings and anchors worn on sleeve above the green slanted stripes.

The insignia is on the left coat sleeve at the shoulder. Yellow and red, above the rank shows the Signal Corps. The Tech-Sergeant rank insignia is on both sleeves. There are 3 short, gold bars on a square black patch, on the left sleeve cuff. There is a diamond shape patch above the right coat pocket with a gold circle, with an eagle in the center. B. Uniform Trousers, Khaki color, wool. C. Web belt, khaki color. 1 1/4" wide. D. Brass Buckle, plain, Clamps onto belt above. E. Army cap, Khaki color with orange and white braid trim on the edges, leather hat band with "Society Brand" in triangle. Moth holes. F. Regulation khaki color shirt. Signal Corps insignia on upper left sleeve. Rank insignia on both sleeves. Diamond shape green patch above right pocket with gold circle with an eagle inside of the circle. G. Regulation Khaki color tie, wool. 48" long. H. Regulation Khaki color tie, twill material, cotton. 43" long.

His sacrifice in an airplane accident at Grand Prairie Training Squadron Field, Grand Prairie, Texas, while on a flight of our Naval Air Station, Dallas, Texas, was as truly a contribution to ultimate victory as if he had given his life in the face of the enemy. 977.018 - Rodney Boalch Obit. Two Die in Air Crashes Two flyers were killed and another critically injured in two crashes of Stearman trainer planes from the Dallas Naval Air Station Friday. Ensign R.T. Boalch, 23, of North Bend, Wash, was killed when the trainer he was flying spun in and crash on the runway at the Grand Prairie training squadron base at 10:30 p.m. Friday. Ensign Raymond W Kolin, 23, Chicago, was killed and Ensign Howard Ford, Omaha, Neb., was critically injured when the Stearman in which they were flying crashed near Britton, Ellis County. Ensign Boalch, who lived in Dallas at Mustang Village, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth DeYoung Boalch, formerly of Vancouver, Wash., and parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Boalch, North Bend, Wash. Ensign Kolin and his wife.....

977.019 - Rodney Boalch Obit. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Boalch were very pleased to have as their guest Monday, June 17, Don Aries, recently released from the service, who had been a special friend of their son, the late Rodney Boalch. The two had spent three years together at Washington State college, trained together in the navy and received their commissions together at Notre Dame. Some may recall that Mr. Aries' picture appeared in the P.-I. about a year ago in connection with prospective material for league baseball. Mr. Aries turned down the offer in favor of furthering his education at this time. Other dinner guests at the Boalch home Monday evening were Paul Haugland, Bill Wotruba and Evelyn Offield.
