2. 030.056 - Ladies single shoe, high top, laced, black. One of a pair of Eva M. Corliss's wedding shoes, married in Seattle. Shoes were worn on her honeymoon trip to Alaska. Written in pencil on bottom of shoe sole, 'EMC July 14, 1899, Over Dyea trail, Alaska.'" Dyea was a small boom mining town on waterfront, about 4 miles from Skagway. During gold rush days, the boats from Seattle landed there, and prospectors went there over the Dyea Trail up to Chilkoot Pass and beyond to get to Dawson City, hub of miner's activities to go and look for gold. Single shoe for left foot. Curved small heel, leather- tipped, with nails showing through leather due to wear. High top 8.5" in front and 7.5" in back. Leather topped on foot to instep, leather around lower heel and 1" wide border on each side of lacing holes. Grommets in holes. Rest of shoe covered with black silk crocodile, with leather strip reinforcing up back seam almost to top of shoe. Long leather tongue lined with cotton cloth. Inside of shoe lined with heavy cotton with band of white silk around inside of top. Stamped in band is name "eggert" Seattle, in silver script. Leather worn through on very pointed toe of shoe.

Signed by the County Auditor. The certificate has the gold seal of the Auditor's Office, Okanogan Co. W. T. The license is in a cream colored folder, that is used for a picture.

There is a silver Lily of the Valley spray, and doves on the front. Marriage Certificate is printed in the silver. It opens in booklet form, the certificate would fit on the inside. The paper is bent and cracked.

Society Betty de Young Engaged to Rod Boalch, US Navy The announcement of the engagement of Betty de Young to Rodney (Rod) Boalch, came as a surprise to the girls of Kappa Alpha Theta at dinner last Sunday, January 16. Pastel candles decorated the table and just before dessert was served each girl was presented with an old fashioned bouquet which was tied with multipastel ribbons. From the end of one of the ribbons hung a small ring and scroll carrying the names, Betty and Rod. Dinner guests included Mrs. A. Williams, Miss Jimmie Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll, Miss Doris Dillon and Mrs. Stanley White. Betty is a senior, member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and Vice-president of the Y.W.C.A. Rod, now a Naval Air Cadet at Monmouth, Illinois, was a junior on this campus last semester. He was a member of Circle and played on the W.S.C. basketball team. No plans have been made for the wedding.

Boalch of North Bend, Wash., was recently read in the First Presbyterian Church, Vancouver, Wash., by the Rev. John W. Pressly. Miss Pauline Gaiser acted as maid of honor and Gerry Lou Curtis was bridesmaid. Dr. Gene C. Webb of Clatskanie, Ore., was best man. A reception followed in the church parlors. The couple left on a honeymoon to Dallas, Tex., where the bridegroom will be stationed. The bride and her husband attended Washington State College, where she is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Her husband received training at the University of Washington, Idaho, St. Mary's and Asbury Park, N.J. He received his commission at Notre Dame on March 8.
